How Much Does It Cost to Fix a Broken Dental Implant?

The cost to repair a broken or failed dental implant ranges from a few hundred dollars for minor repairs to around $5,000 if a full replacement is needed. Our free consultation includes a clear treatment plan with insurance and payment options, so there are no surprises.

Does Insurance Cover Dental Implant Repairs?

Coverage for dental implant repairs varies by plan. Some insurance providers may cover certain parts of the repair, like crown replacement or gum treatment, while others may offer limited or no coverage. Our team can walk you through your benefits, explain what’s covered, and help you get the most out of your plan.

Flexible Financing

For repairs that are more involved, we offer payment plans to help make treatment more manageable. Whether you need a crown replacement, gum treatment, or something more complex, we can work with you to find a financing option that fits your budget.

What Are Common Causes of Failed Implants?

Dental implants have a high success rate. However, complications can occur. Here are some of the most common reasons implants fail.

Poor Healing or Bone Integration

This is when the implant post doesn’t fully bond with the jawbone, a process called osseointegration.

Infection (Peri-Implantitis)

Bacteria can build up around the implant, leading to gum inflammation and bone loss if left untreated.

Excess Bite Pressure or Grinding

Clenching or grinding your teeth (bruxism) can place too much force on the implant over time, loosening or damaging it.

Gum Recession or Tissue Damage

Thin or unhealthy gum tissue around the implant may lead to exposure of the post or bone underneath.

Damaged Crown or Prosthetic

Biting hard substances like ice, pens, or tough foods can break the implant crown or abutment over time.

Medical Conditions or Smoking

Factors like uncontrolled diabetes, autoimmune conditions, or smoking can interfere with healing and long-term implant success.

Dental Implant Repair Options

The right solution for your implant depends on what’s causing the problem. Some repairs are quick and simple, while others require more involved care.

Crown Replacement

If the crown is chipped, cracked, or loose, we can often fix it without needing to replace the implant.

Abutment Repair or Replacement

The abutment is the connector between the implant and crown. In some situations, it may need replacement or repair.

Deep Cleaning and Gum Treatment

If there’s inflammation or infection around the implant (peri-implantitis), we’ll thoroughly clean the area and treat the surrounding tissue to restore gum health.

Bite Adjustment

Grinding or bite imbalance can put too much pressure on an implant. We may make minor adjustments to your bite or recommend a night guard to protect your restoration.

Full Implant Replacement

If the implant post itself has failed, or there’s significant bone loss, we may need to remove and replace the implant. This is sometimes necessary for long-term success.

Bone Grafting (If Bone Loss Is Present)

If the implant has failed due to bone loss, a bone graft may be needed to rebuild the jaw before placing a new implant.

Not sure what kind of repair you need? Dr. Kerns will walk you through your options and help you understand the pros, cons, and long-term outlook of each.
